Do you have any Broadband USB Internet kit? This kit is a USB attached device which you can access internet. The common brands or should I say provider in the Philippines include namely Smart (SMARTBRO), GLOBE (TATTOO), SUN (SUN BROADBAND). This is a small, palm-sized device that you can carry with you wherever you go. And anytime you need to surf, just plug it into the USB port of your PC, and you’ll get connected in a flash. Anyway, if you have this device you can actually share the internet to other laptop of your family members, friends, etc. as long as they can connect through wireless.

To share this you must plug the USB stick in your laptop and  once you have internet access we can set-up a wireless AD-HOC connection.

What is Ad-hoc?

In wireless computer networks, ad-hoc mode is a method for wireless devices to directly communicate with each other. Operating in ad-hoc mode allows all wireless devices within range of each other to discover and communicate in peer-to-peer fashion without involving central access points (including those built in to broadband wireless routers) (source:

To setup wireless ad-hoc you can follow these steps (Note: Im using windows 7 operating system which might not similar to other OS like windows xp):

1.) Go to Control Panel and click Network and Sharing Center. Then choose Set up a new connection or network. Refer below screenshot.

2.) Then this page will show up and click Set up a wireless ad hoc then Next.

3.) A page similar to this will show up. Just click on Next.

4.) Type a name that you prefer in Network name field and security password in Security key field. This password will be used by other laptop that will join your ad-hoc wireless connection. Then, click Next.

5.) A connection test page will appear and will confirm if its successful showing your Network name and Password.

6.) You can now close the window and go to wireless icon at the bottom right of your desktop same as below picture. Then you can now see your ad-hoc connection in the wireless available list.

7.) Now, you are done setting-up the ad-hoc connection. The second and important part is to share your Smartbro, globe tattoo or any other broadband type so that other users that will join your ad-hoc connection can have internet access as well.

How to share Internet Access from your attached USB broadband device after a successful ad-hoc setup?

1.) First, go to Network and Sharing Center under Control Panel.

2.) Then, click on Change adapter settings option on the left of the screen. Then Right Click on the Device that you want to share (Ex. Smartbro) then properties.

3.) Go to Sharing tab and click on all tick box to share the internet connection then press OK.

4.) Let other users connected in your ad-hoc to test if they already have the internet access.
